Corbin Bleu is to take over the role of Jesus from Hunter Parrish in the first Broadway revival of "Godspell" next month, the show's producers said. Best known for his work in the "High School Musical" franchise, the actor and singer will give his first performance in "Godspell" April 17. Parrish will wrap up his run in the rock musical April 15 so he can return to Los Angeles to begin filming the eighth season of the Showtime series "Weeds." Preview performances of the "Godspell" revival began Oct. 13 and opening night was Nov. 7. "I know Corbin Bleu has a special affinity for 'Godspell,' and with his great talent, charisma, and radiant energy, I know he will be terrific in the show," Stephen Schwartz, who penned the show's music and lyrics, said in a statement Friday. "I am very much looking forward to working with him and seeing him as our new Jesus." Bleu made his Broadway stage debut in 2010 as the lead character Usnavi in the musical "In the Heights." The original New York production debuted in May 1971 and ran for more than 2,600 performances.
