Seoul - AFP

South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries said Wednesday it has won a $1.12 billion deal to build two deep-water drill ships for Maersk Drilling, a subsidiary of Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk. Samsung will by July 2014 deliver the two ships used for offshore oil and gas drilling, the firm's spokesman told AFP. The firm said it has also won other deals worth $1.98 billion in total to build six natural gas carriers and five shuttle tankers for four European and American companies that were not named. "Now we have won orders worth $14.2 billion so far this year, above our annual target of $11.5 billion and up more than 50 percent from $9.7 billion for last year," it said in a statement.
