Kuwaiti Minister of State for Planning and Development Affairs Abdulwahab Al-Haroun arrived in Tokyo on Tuesday to inaugurate the Kuwaiti-Japanese Businessmen's Committee and meet senior Japanese officials. The 16th Kuwaiti-Japanese Businessmen's Committee, due Wednesday, is expected to focus on the economic opportunities between the two nations, especially with the advent of the 50th anniversary of Kuwaiti-Japanese diplomatic relations, according to the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce Industry. On Thursday, Al-Haroun is also scheduled to attend a seminar on investment opportunities in Kuwait, which will cover the nation's five-year development plan running through 2014 and other mega projects. Upon arrival at Narita International Airport, the minister was received by First Secretary at the Kuwaiti Embassy in Japan Mohammed Al-Mutairi, Third Secretary Abdulaziz Al-Dalah and Japanese officials. The committee's annual meeting, first launched in 1995, will be organized by the Japanese Cooperation Center for the Middle East (JCCME). Established in 1973 under the sponsorship of the Japanese government, the non-profit foundation has been promoting Japan's investment and transfer of technology to the Middle East. The JCCME also has a Japan Desk in Kuwait, which plays a bridging role between private companies of Kuwait and Japan to help them establish joint ventures.
