OMO and Comfort have launched their annual community clothes donation drive for the first time in Saudi Arabia in partnership with Uber and NGOs Kiswat Al-Sayida Aisha in Jeddah and Bunyan in Riyadh.
“Share a Touch of Love this Ramadan” encourages people to donate clothes to those less fortunate during the holy month.
The campaign, has been running in Dubai for the last seven years and has come to Saudi Arabia for the first time this year. In 2014, the campaign set a Guinness World Record for the largest clothing collection drive, and then broke its own record in 2015 and 2016.
“We at Unilever are delighted to bring this campaign to Saudi Arabia for the first time. Comfort and OMO are both brands that have love, sharing and giving built into their core values. The campaign takes that extra dose of love out to the wider community. Our campaign is now a key part of Unilever’s Ramadan calendar, and we hope it becomes an occasion that consumers wait for and participate enthusiastically in,” said Marwan Yassin, home care marketing director, Unilever. In an effort to reach more people and make it easier for them to donate, the initiative has partnered with Uber.
At the push of a button, people will be able to donate their gently used clothes, by arranging a complimentary pickup through the “UberOMO” option in the Uber app from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. between May 28-June 22 in Jeddah and Riyadh.
Uber has created a unique promo code, UberOMOJED for Jeddah and UberOMORIY for Riyadh, especially for the initiative, which can be used on weekends and will give riders 50 percent off on their trip to and from a select few malls with donation stands.
Anthony Khoury, Uber Middle East general manager said, “We are delighted to partner with OMO and Comfort on this inspiring initiative, which is particularly significant following previous impactful years.
The spirit of Ramadan is about reflection, caring for others, and giving. This year Uber will be making it easier for people to share a touch of love and donate from their homes to those who need it the most.”
