The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) hosted a public forum yesterday at Ghayathi Wedding Hall in the Western Region, Abu Dhabi aimed at acquainting residents of the area to FANR's role in ensuring the safe, secure and peaceful uses of the nuclear programme in the UAE. FANR's Director General, Dr William D. Travers, said: "Public outreach is more than presenting technical facts; it is about placing important information in a societal context and about engaging all stakeholders in a meaningful conversation. "Openness' and ?transparency' are key components of FANR's nuclear regulatory programme". The forum was held by FANR's officials and representatives from various departments, and in cooperation with the Western Region Municipality and the Abu Dhabi Education Council. The public were able to ask questions about FANR's regulatory work, scholarships, employment opportunities and its responsibility within the nuclear program. FANR will be conducting more similar public forums in the next few months to introduce UAE public to FANR's role in ensuring the safe, secure and peaceful uses of the nuclear programme in the UAE.
