Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, is enhancing its capabilities in Europe with the appointment of Eszter Ungar as its Head of Corporate Affairs for the region.
Ms. Ungar joins the airline from The Boeing Company, where she held the position of Communications Director for EU/NATO, Northern Europe and Africa, based in Brussels. In addition, she has held posts at GE and Hill and Knowlton, where she managed several Fortune 500 clients.
Ms. Ungar will be based at Etihad Airways’ European headquarters in Berlin and be responsible for building and managing the airline’s brand and reputation in Europe as well as supporting its engagement with European Union institutions.
Michael Venus, Etihad Airways’ Vice President, Corporate Affairs, said, "Etihad Airways is building a world class Corporate Affairs Department with a core team in Abu Dhabi complemented by seasoned strategists located in key cities around the world including Sydney, Beijing, New York and now Berlin.
"Eszter’s European experience and expertise, developed in multinational corporations and highly competitive consultancies, means she’s ideally placed to effectively engage with stakeholders in Berlin, Brussels, and across the region." Etihad Airways has expanded significantly in Europe in recent years, operating 214 existing or announced passenger flights a week between Abu Dhabi and 21 destinations in 16 European countries.
The airline continues to expand its codeshare partnerships with European airlines as well as investing in airberlin, Aer Lingus, Air Serbia, with regulatory approval pending for Darwin Airline, which will operate as Etihad Regional, and Alitalia.
Speaking on her appointment, Eszter Ungar said, "The Etihad Airways story is one of the most exciting and unique in aviation today. I’m delighted to be joining the airline in this period of growth and look forward to developing the narrative in the European market as well as alongside our European partners."
