Woodcliff Lake - UPI

German automaker BMW announced its largest-ever recall, involving 1.3 million cars, 367,000 of them in the United States. The automaker said the recall involves BMW 5 Series sedans and sports wagons made between June 1, 2003, and March 31, 2010. It is also recalling 6 Series coupes and convertibles made between Sept. 1, 2003, and July 31, 2010. "In rare cases," the company said, "the insulated bulkhead connector may have been incorrectly attached to the truck floor panel. Over time, this can lead to a loosening of the bolt connection causing various systems in the vehicle to malfunction." The error could start a fire, even with the car not running, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday. The automaker said it would alert car owners of the recall in April, instructing them to have their cars examined by a dealer. The company said it would change the cable's plastic cover.
