The manufacturer of Buckyballs and Buckycubes blamed U.S. safety regulators for the decision to stop making the adult toys. In an announcement on its website this week, Maxfield and Oberton said the magnetic toys will be off store shelves once the remaining supply is sold, CNN reported Friday. "It's time to bid a fond farewell to the world's most popular adult desk toys," the announcement said. "That's right: We're sad to say that Balls and Cubes have a one-way ticket to the Land-of-Awesome-Stuff-You-Should-Have-Bought-When-You-Had-the-Chance." The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission sued the company in July, saying the toys can be dangerous and even deadly if children swallow them. At the time, the company said Buckyballs and Buckycubes were only marketed to people over the age of 14. The company did not concede the toys are dangerous. "We made a tough decision after a lot of thought based on how to protect the integrity of the business, the brand, and begin to move forward," Andrew Frank, a spokesman, told CNN in an email. "It was time for our team to start focusing on the future and providing innovative products for our loyal customers. We will continue to fight the CPSC and sell our other products."
