The third G20 Speakers Consultation Meeting opened in Riyadh on Saturday under the theme Sustainable Economic Development for a Safe World. Hosted by the Shura Council under the patronage of King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, the meeting was inaugurated by Dr Abdullah Bin Mohammad Ebrahim Al Shaikh, Speaker of the Shura Council. "The world is undergoing developments at various levels, particularly with the financial crisis taking several countries into economic recession and sovereign debts, in addition to the fluctuations in exchange rates and increasing unemployment rates," Dr Al Shaikh said in his keynote speech. He said Saudi Arabia would work through the G20 and other concerned international financial and monetary institutions to find the most effective solutions for recovery to the global economy. Energy markets "Saudi Arabia will spare no effort to work with the international community to stabilise energy markets and support the dialogue of producers and consumers for the sustainability of global econ-omic growth." The meeting is due to conclude on Sunday.
