Syrian refugees in Jordan will now be allowed to work in the construction and agricultural sectors following the enforcement of new rules.
According to the Jordanian state agency, Petra, the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU) has started issuing free work permits to migrant workers and Syrian refugees, as part of the efforts to regulate the sector and protect job opportunities for Jordanians.
GFJTU's President Mazen Ma'aytah said that the federation had agreed to issue work permits to create job opportunities for Jordanians and prevent non-Jordanians from working in professions closed to "guest labourer." The new move is in agreement with the International Labour Organisation and Jordan's Ministry of Labour
