The Council of Saudi Chambers (CSC) on Tuesday dismissed reports that some of its members were part of a Vietnamese recruitment scam involving Saudi citizens recruiting housemaids at low prices and sending them to work in the Kingdom at exorbitant prices.
The CSC denial came following reports in the local media that alleged that some members of the national committee for external recruitment at CSC were part of the scam.
According to the reports, Saudi Ambassador to Vietnam Dakhilallah Al-Juhani was quoted as saying that Saudi brokers had rented an apartment in Hanoi as their headquarters and indulged in malpractice by recruiting domestic workers for a maximum SR2,000 each and then they charged Saudis SR25,000 for every maid.
“The activity of recruitment ceased to exist as of May last year, 2015, when the chairman and members of the committee submitted requests to be relieved from committee membership,” CSC said in a special statement.
“Since then, there was no activity for the committee, and the whole file on external recruitment was handled by Ministry of Labor. So, what appeared in the media on CSC member involvement does not describe the present reality,” CSC added.
CSC strongly stressed its rejection of any behavior from its members which affects the interests of citizens and residents, the reputation of the country in general and in recruitment issues in particular.
It also emphasized its readiness to cooperate with all official authorities on recruitment issues and contribute in solving its problems so citizens can easily benefit from external recruitment services.
