Frederick Ashton's 'La Fille Mal Gardée' is a balletic romcom about a spirited young girl, Lise, and her determination to marry her true love, Colas, rather than the local dimwit her mother prefers. Comedy and ballet don't always mix but this is one case where they just about get away with it. 'La Fille Mal Gardée' is quaint and very English, with a touch of panto and a clog dance routine worthy of Morecambe and Wise, but its utter charm will win you over in the end, especially if you can catch Carlos Acosta and Marianela Nuñez in the leading roles.
