Cairo - Arab today

The Egyptian Lebanese Publishing House has issued a new book titled "Farouk Hosny and The Secrets of the UNESCO Battle," which digs into the backstory of former Minister of Culture Farouk Hosny's campaign to be elected director-general of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The book is written by Egyptian journalist Fathiya El-Dakhakhny, with a preface by Egyptian journalist Makram Mohamed Ahmed, former head of the Journalists Syndicate.

The book goes behind the scene of the 2009 UNESCO elections for director-general, a post which Hosni was favoured for but ultimately lost to Bulgaria's Irina Bokova.

The book looks at maneuvers made by UNESCO member countries during the different stages of voting and an alleged US-Israeli plot to prevent an Egyptian candidate from leading UNESCO.

At one point in the book, Hosni reveals previously unreleased documents relevant to the election.

The book will be available for purchase at the 48th Cairo International Book Fair
