Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival
Sharjah - WAM

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, will witness the launch of the 8th edition of Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF), which takes place tomorrow (Wednesday April 20, 2016).

Organised by Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) and held each year under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and under the patronage of His Wife, H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, this year’s SCRF is themed ‘Shine out’ and takes place from April 20-30 at Expo Centre Sharjah.

The 8th edition of SCRF features more than 1,500 cultural, artistic, awareness and entertainment events and sees the participation of 130 publishers from 15 countries. As the region’s leading literary event for young people, SCRF 2016 seeks to promote a culture of reading among children and enrich their minds with knowledge. Children taking part in the festival will have the opportunity to develop their skills, build their intellectual capacities and demonstrate their talents to visitors.

An elite group of children’s books authors, artists, and media celebrities will participate in the festival’s workshops and discussion panels. Among the famous names at SCRF 2016 are acclaimed Egyptian actress and TV presenter Najwa Ibrahim, also known as ‘Mama Najwa’; Bahraini actor of Emirati origin Mohammed Yassin, best known for his role ‘Baba Yassin’ and acclaimed Moroccan author Al Arabi Ben Jelloun. These and other renowned personalities will be adding colour to the seminars and workshops that form a major part of the festival’s cultural and intellectual programme.

For the first time the festival will feature an exhibition titled ‘Beyond Planet Earth: The Future of Space Exploration.’ The interactive exhibition will feature a collection of mini-presentations, including the ‘Solar System Theatre,’ ‘Returning to the Moon,’ ‘Exploring Asteroids’,’ and ‘Voyaging to Mars.’
