AL AIN - WAM

As part of the second edition of the Al Ain Region’s Cultural Programme, the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi has organised a series of activities and events at Al Ain Palace Museum to showcase the UAE's heritage and culture.

On Friday 3rd November, activities will begin with a performance by the characters from the popular children’s show 'Majid TV', followed by a series of workshops, competitions and an educational awareness safety presentation to be given by the Department of Emergency and Public Safety in the Al Ain Region.

Handicraft Workshops, which will take place every Tuesday and Wednesday, will showcase traditional Emirati arts and crafts. Participants will learn the intricate techniques of ‘Talli,’, using bright threads to decorate women’s clothes, and ‘Sadu’, wool and cotton yarn weaving , to make colourful, decorated fabric used in Bedouin tents.

The workshops will also feature ‘Khos’ dried palm frond braiding to make baskets and other items. This workshop will exhibit the intricate handicrafts and creative skills of experts and highlight the importance of promoting Emirati products reflective of the UAE’s artistic heritage. The workshops will be held every Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Aiming to expand the public’s knowledge, Al Ain Palace Museum will also host a panel discussion held by heritage experts and specialists to discuss Emirati customs, traditions and heritage. This programme runs every Sunday and will continue until April next year.

'My Heritage, My Responsibility' will also return for its second edition at Al Ain Palace Museum with exciting new activities. This event will focus on the cultural and societal diversity of popular Emirati art. Visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of activities from folk-dance performances to traditional markets featuring popular dishes and children’s workshops. The series will be held on 7th – 8th December, 11th – 12th January and 15th – 16th February.

Al Ain Palace Museum will also host World Heritage Day, which was adopted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation on 18th April each year to celebrate the cultural heritage and diversity of World Heritage sites. The celebrations will be held on 19th and 20th April.
