In memory of the late renowned Egyptian author Yahya Haqqi (1905-1992) — otherwise known as the father of the short story — the Cultural Development Fund is holding a special evening at the Talaat Harb Cultural Centre on Thursday 12 January 2012. The event will include a discussion of Haqqi’s work as well as some of the films it inspired, landmarks in Egyptian cinema, including “Om Hashem’s Lantern” and “The Postman”. A number of writers and critics will join the celebration, also to be attended by Noha Haqqi, his daughter. Young authors will be invited to share their experience of Haqqi’s writings and his influence on their creativity. The event will close with a screening of “Om Hashem’s Lantern”, directed by Kamal Attia.
