Following its first longlist announcement made last week, the Sheikh Zayed Book Award announced today, December 20th, its second longlist for another two categories; “Best Contribution to Development of the Nation” and “Translation”, including six and seven book titles under each respectively. The books in the “Best Contribution to the Development of Nations” longlist were selected from more than 119 nominations received for the Award’s sixth session currently running. The books come with a colorful range of topics including Politics, Arab World history, Child education and Contemporary economic issues, counting: "A Reference- Children's Kindergarten" Hassan Shehat Egypt Dar Al Alam Alarabi "The last Days of Ancient Arabs" Saad al-Sowayan KSA Arab Network for Research and Publishing "The World Financial Crisis" Abdelrazaq Fares Abdelrazaq UAE Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research "Let's not Forget Beit Dajan- Jaffa" Ayman Jaber Hammoudeh Jordan Ward Books-Amman "Renaissance & Modernity: Amidst Confusion & Failure" Hussin Al Oudat Syria Dar al Saqi "Different Styles of Cognitive Skill Development in the 21st Century" Hadi Al Faraji Iraq Dar Konoz For the “Translation” category, seven books have made it to the longlist out of 40 titles, as nominated by the judging panels and approved by the Award’s Foundation, which include: "A Prelude to Phenomenology and Phenomenological Philosophy" (translated from of the work of Edmund Husserl in German) Abu Yarub Al Marzouki Tunisia Jadawel "The Minimal Literature: Reflections of a disfigured life" (translated from of the work of Theodor W. Adorno in German) Neji Elounelli Tunisia Sharq Gharb Publications "A Life Without Don Quixote and Sancho" (translated from of the work of Miguel De Unamuno in Spanish) Saleh Almani Syria Dar Rufof "Linguistics and the Sub-conscious" (translated from of the work of Michel Arrivé in French) Mohammed Alboukai Syria Dar Al Kitab Al Jadeed "Sufism and Deconstruction: A Comparative Study of Derrid and Ibn Arabi" (translated from the work of Ian Almond in English) Hosam Nayel Egypt The National Center for Translation "Gems of the Senses" (translated from the work of Abu Abbas at-Tijani in Arabic) Ravane Mbaye Senegal Al Bouraq "Right to Philosophy" (translated from the work of Jacques Derrida) Izzedine Khatabi Riffi Syria Al Munazzama Al Arabiyya lil Tarjama The Award’s judging panels work is in progress to evaluate the long listed books. The assessment results are then collectively evaluated by the Scientific Committee of the Award to produce a short list which will again be evaluated to choose the winner of each category. The winners are scheduled for announcement in February 2012, and the Award’s Presentation Ceremony, celebrating the winning achievements, will be held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions on 29th March next year.
