Louvre Abu Dhabi Talking Art Series began yesterday with a discussion led by Louvre Abu Dhabi's Pritzker-prize winning architect, Jean Nouvel, held during the Art Abu Dhabi Fair at Manarat Al Saadiyat.
Alongside Jean-Francois Charnier, Scientific Director, Agency France-Museums, and Brazilian contemporary artist Ernesto Neto, the panel explored the topic of Museums as Sites for New Experiences.
Presented by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, TCA Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with the Agence France-Museums and Ecole du Louvre, the Louvre Abu Dhabi: Talking Art Series will hold 3 more panel discussions from 28th January 2015 to 27th May. Exploring significant themes throughout the history of art through artworks that form part of Louvre Abu Dhabi's growing permanent collection as well as key works on loan from partner institutions, this dynamic programme aims to bring together eminent specialists, curators, academics, architects, philosophers, writers and artists, whilst sharing their thoughts and ideas with the U.A.E. public.
Hissa Al Dhaheri, Programmes Manager of Louvre Abu Dhabi, said, "The modern museum is no longer simply a location in which to display artworks and artefacts, it has become a space for visitors to have new experiences and interactions. This Talking Art Series panel discussion offered an insight into this topic through the very different points of view of the artist, curator and architect. The Talking Art Series in a vital part of Louvre Abu Dhabi's engagement with the scholarly community as well as local, regional and international audiences, giving the public an insight to the universal narrative of the museum and opening up avenues of discussion." Presented at Manarat Al Saadiyat located in the Saadiyat Cultural District in Abu Dhabi, the next talk, entitled "James Ivory Talks: Miniature Paintings and Films" will take place on the 28th of January 2015.
