El-Geneina theatre in Al-Azhar Park launches its spring programme after a hiatus for the winter with four performances by Egyptian, Jordanian and Palestinian musicians.Between 10-18 April, Egyptian musician Dina El-Wedidi, Jordanian artists JadaL and Macadi Nahhas along with Palestinian band FishSamak will hold concerts.El-Wedidi is one of the rising stars on the Egyptian and regional scene. Her music is heard throughout Cairo at regular concerts, and most recently she took part in the Nile Project's African tour, performing with several other Nile Basin musicians. In 2012, she was mentored by iconic Brazilian musician Gilberto Gil as part of The Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative. They performed together in Cairo in 2013 during the Cairo Jazz Festival. Macadi Nahas is a Jordanian singer who from time to time performs in Cairo. She sings covers for artists such as Fairouz along with her own songs. The artist also dabbles in puppetry, fashion and jewellery design. Her music does not fall under one particular genre but borrows from many to create a contemporary sound inspired by Arabic classics.Another Jordanian voice in the programme is rock band JadaL. The band has been around since 2003 when they started playing Abdel-Halim Hafez's music with an Arabic rock twist. Since then they have produced two albums and hosted performances in Jordan and the region.Palestinian band FishSamak, established by alternative musician Jowan Safadi from Nazareth, has released three studio albums and several singles.El-Genaina theatre was launched in April 2005, and since then has provided an outdoor space for artistic events, along with hosting festivals organised by Al-Mawred Al-Thaqafi who run the theatre as wel Source: ahramonline
