The first Middle East Film and Comic Convention (MEFCC) will take place 20-21 April at the Dubai International Marine Club. The convention, which will resemble comic conventions held in the US, will feature a multitude of comic genres, including fantasy, science fiction, drama, manga and pop art. The convention was first planned to take place in 2011. It was postponed due to the political situation in the region. Events include autograph signings by celebrities, try outs of new game releases, screenings of superhero movies and anime, panel discussions and workshops. There will also be cosplay competitions, a Marvel comics stand and an anime channel. Different comic merchandise will also be available. Among the attending celebrities is John Rhys Davies, best known for his role as Gimli (and the voice of Treebeard) in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Sallah from Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
