Awsaj Academy, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, celebrated Qatar National Day with cultural events which had a distinctly Qatari flavour. Awsaj Parent Teacher Association (PTA), staff and students from grades one to 12, participated in the events, a spokesperson for the Academy said Tuesday. The celebrations began with an indoor programme, commencing with the reciting of verses fromthe Holy Qur'an and a rendition of the Qatar's national anthem. Students then performed a traditional play, organised by the Arabic and Islamic Studies Department, followed by a draw for the winners of a national information competition organised by the Awsaj Academy'ss art teacher. Awsaj Academy's PTA Chair Hanadi Al Noaimi, emphasizing the Academy's patriotic spirit, said, "It is our duty to deploy all efforts in order to celebrate this special occasion. I really appreciate the efforts and support of the PTA Members, Awsaj staff and the students for their hard work in making this celebration memorable." The gathering participated in open air activities of tent making, henna decoration, face painting, and photography organised jointly with the PTA members. The gathering participated in a wide range of activities and enjoyed the Ardha singers and drummers who performed an ensemble piece. The group's chanting and drumming echoed into the afternoon air as Awsaj students old and young danced with their swords, exulting in their Qatari pride and sense of tradition. Another highlight was the participation of Al Shaqab equestrian centre, also a member of Qatar Foundation, which gave children the opportunity to ride ponies.
