Akkar - NNA

MP Hadi Hbeish indicated Saturday that the fire which lasted since Friday morning until today in the area of Qbayat over approximately 250 hectares has finally been extinguished, and is currently being cooled down using water from an artificial pond developed in the region.

Hbeish thanked the Lebanese army, Civil defense and volunteers, the Lebanese Red Cross, the Qbayat Municipality and all citizens of Qbayat and Akkar who responded to the emergency call to help extinguish the fire.

The deputy regretted the forest disaster which befell the areas that suffered from fire, while reassuring that no human casualties were reported. He added that the causes of the fire are not yet known, since investigations are still underway into the incident.

In this connection, Hbeish indicated that the Prime Minister would be informed of the incident's details in an effort to provide all necessary assistance and compensations for those who incurred material damages, in cooperation with the Municipality of Qbayat. He added that a report would be submitted to the Supreme Relief Commission in this respect
