DUBAI - Arab Today

After two days of unstable weather, UAE’s skies will stabilise on Wednesday giving way to partly cloudy to cloudy weather but only for a day. Forecasters expect another round of weather instability beginning Thursday.

“On Wednesday, the weather will be generally stable and the amount of clouds will decrease to become partly cloudy in the morning over some areas, with a possibility of fog formation,” said a weather bulletin from the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).

But this fine weather is expected to last only for 24 hours as forecasters expect conditions to become gradually unstable beginning Thursday, bringing scattered rain showers until Monday. Freshening winds may become strong with cloud activity and kick up dust and sand over exposed areas

On Saturday, we expect some cloud formation with chance of rain along the coast, that includes Dubai. The winds will be fresh to strong over the sea that could affect the Dubai coast becoming fresh to strong northeasterly by morning time and will continue for the whole day. Over land, residents may experience moderate winds,” a forecaster from NCMS told Gulf News

On Tuesday, the low pressure affecting the southeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula resulted in different intensities of rain that lashed most parts of the country with thundershowers recorded in Fujairah. Light to moderate rain was recorded in Dubai, Sharjah, Shuwaib, Hatta, parts of the western region, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain, Ajman and Shoukah.

Residents experienced light showers in Abu Dhabi Airport, Al Dhafrah Airport, Fujairah Airport, and Al Minhad at 2pm

Forecasters said the country experienced “sufficient amount of rains” on Monday and Tuesday. The highest recorded rainfall from midnight of Monday until 1pm of Tuesday was in Jebel Jais at 54mm followed by Al Foah in Abu Dhabi near the Oman border at 52.8mm.

The showers in Dubai caused some low-lying areas to be waterlogged on Tuesday morning. Residents of The Gardens said they had to wade through water puddles on their way to work.

“Some parts in our neighbourhood are flooded again. This has been a regular occurrence for us every time in rains hard or a pipe bursts, and it’s always the same spot near that mosque behind Ibn Battuta Mall,” Shella, a long-time resident said. Jeff R., a Discovery Gardens resident, said only some parts in The Gardens had waterlogging and everything was clear by midday.

When contacted, a Nakheel spokesperson said: “Nakheel took immediate action to address the situation caused by today’s weather. Roads are now clear.”

In Dubai Investments Park, water tanker pumps were seen pumping out large puddles in some areas.
