A policeman was killed and four others injured on Sunday when a drive-by gunmen opened fire on a patrol in Egypt's coastal city of Alexandria, state-run Ahram newspapers reported.
"Unknown masked militants board a car targeted a security patrol, and showered the police forces with bullets, then fled the scene," Ahram quoted a security source as saying.
Hundreds of policemen and soldiers have been killed in a surge of attacks and bombings since the army ousted the Islamist president, Mohamed Morsi, last year.
On Saturday, a police corporal was killed and another injured by two unidentified men who drove a motorcycle and opened fire at them in Giza province.
Late on Thursday, the Egyptian army announced that an officer and a soldier were killed when a roadside bomb exploded near their armored personnel carrier in North Sinai city of al-Arish.
Most of the attacks took place in the lawless restive Sinai Peninsula, the base of the most famous al-Qaeda-linked militant group Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (ABM), while others have extended to the capital Cairo and other delta cities.
The ABM group, which has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks. It has been designated as a terrorist group by both Egypt and the United States in April.
