Hosni Mubarak refuses to eat as is "extremely weak," state news agency MENA reported Wednesday, citing the director of the Sharm El-Sheikh hospital where the former Egyptian president is being held.
Mubarak, 84, is due to go on trial next week on charges that he ordered police to fire on protesters who had gathered for weeks demanding his resignation, which came in February. He faces a death sentence if convicted.
He is also charged with corruption along wiith two of his sons and denies all charges levelled against him.
Mubarak has been hospitalised since April. He reportedly suffers from depression and heart palpitations.
Asim Azzam, a doctor who treats Mubarak at the hospital, in an interview last with with Egyptian daily Al-Ahram, said his patient`s vital signs were stable but he was psychologically in "bad shape."
