Kingston - AFP

Former world record-holder Asafa Powell and former world champion Veronica Campbell-Brown won 100-meter titles at the Jamaican Athletics Championships. Powell won in 10.08 seconds with Yohan Blake second in 10.09 and Steve Mullings third in 10.10, all going into a headwind of 1.8m/sec, to book berths at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, on August 27 to September 4. Reigning world and Olympic champion and world record-holder champion Usain Bolt will also represent Jamaica at the worlds. He decided not to compete in the Jamaican championships, his world berths already set as world champion. Powell eased worries about his fitness after pulling up last month in Rabat, running impressively through every round and outracing a world-class field to the finish line. In the women's 100m final, Campbell-Brown won in 10.84 with Kerron Stewart second in 10.97 and rookie Jura Levy third in 11.10, each aided by a tailwind of 0.3m/sec. Leford Green won the men's 400m hurdles in 49.19 ahead of Josef Robertson in 49.64 and Roxroy Cato's 49.66 while Kaliese Spencer won the women's 400 hurdles in 54.15 with schoolgirl Tracey Ristananna second in a world junior record of 54.58 and Nickiesha Wilson third in 55.95. Kenia Sinclair took the women's 1500m in 4:18.00.
