American President Barack Obama congratulated the St. Louis Cardinals on their stunning World Series victory and says he is looking forward to meeting the team in person. Obama telephoned Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa Monday, telling him he stayed up late to watch the seven-game series and that it was one of the better sporting spectacles he had seen in a long time. St. Louis edged the Texas Rangers in a seven-game series 4-3, that included a dynamic 11th-inning contest in game six and a rainout in St. Louis which extended the series one extra day. LaRussa announced his retirement after the Cardinals' win. Obama also congratulated the manager on a brilliant career and said he looks forward to hosting the team at the White House.
