Joleon Lescott is desperate to hear the City fans singing his name again – for two important reasons. The Blues’ defensive rock has been unfortunate not to be on the MCFC Player of the Year shortlist after a terrific season and he knows if ‘Joleon Lescott, he’s top of the league!’ is sung in the final weeks of the season, City will be above United again. “I’m missing it because it’s my song and it meant we were top of the table," said the 29-year-old England defender. “I can’t wait to hear it again and the quicker we can get back there, the better. If I hear it again this season, that would probably mean we’d be in with a fantastic chance of winning the title.” Lescott’s consistency has made him something of an unsung hero in Roberto Mancini’s side, but of late, that has changed and the former Wolves and Everton star, who will make his 100th appearance for City at Molineux this weekend, really appreciates. “The fans have been fantastic towards me and the team and we want to give them something back to reward their support, passion and loyalty over the years – they deserve the best. “I’ve really enjoyed this season and my relationship with the supporters has really blossomed this year, even though it’s always been good and they’ve always been behind me. “This is a home from home for me, now. I’ve got two years left on my contract and that would mean I’ve been here as long as I was with Wolves which would be fantastic. This is just a great club to be at.” Lescott, who launched his new clothing brand – LescottStewart - with his brother Aaron and Jordan Stewart at a glitzy event in Manchester on Tuesday, also paid tribute to his defensive partner and skipper, Vincent Kompany. “Vinnie’s form has been great for a number of years now so you know when you play alongside him that as long as you try and match his levels of effort and commitment you won’t be going far wrong because he such a great player,” he said. “I like to feel I pull my own weight and we share the workload in the centre of defence but I think the fact we get on so well off the pitch also helps a lot. We complement each other and I think it shows when we play for City.”
