Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola looked ahead to the future with optimism after watching his side open its BBVA Primera Liga campaign with a 5-0 win at home to Villarreal. Leo Messi scored twice, which Tiago Alcantara, Cesc Fabrigas and Alexis Sanchez all got on the scoresheet as Barca brushed past the side which had ended last season fourth in the classification. Barca have won the last three titles and went into the game just three days after beating Porto 2-0 in the European Supercup. Speaking in Monday's edition of el Mundo Deportivo, Guardiola was confident that his side can win other titles this campaign. "If the players can accept our style of play, then we can go a long way. We have got great players and people behind them waiting to play. That is our great strength," said Guardiola, who rested Xavi Hernandez and David Villa and opted to play Tiago, Cesc, Iniesta and Seydou Keita in a four-man midfield. "Our midfield is what assures us control of the game and also stability. Things look very good as long as these players don' t relax, but they are not like that," he added. This summer has seen Barcelona win the Spanish and European Supercups and in December they travel to Japan to play in the World Cup Championship, meaning they have the chance of winning all six titles, the maximum any club side can win in a campaign, for the second time in Guardiola's spell as coach. "This squad has to show that it is better than previous squads, but what it is already able to do is assure the way of going into games and that we will compete well in La Liga, the Cup, the Champions League and the World Club Championship," added the Barca coach. Guardiola also highlighted the way that Cesc has adapted to life at the club after returning from Arsenal in the middle of August and he was also pleased to see Alexis score on his league debut. "It is not easy to come from another club and play well here in this ground for the first time. When he scored his goal, he relaxed and we began to see the player that he really is," he concluded.
