Reinhard Grindl has been elected as the new German Soccer Association (DFB) president, the DFB confirmed on Friday.
Politician Reinhard Grindl is the successor of Wolfgang Niersbach, who has resigned in November 2015 after being involved in the 2006 World Cup affair.
The 54-year-old Grindl earned 250 of 255 possible votes to become the twelfth president of the German FA.
"To take office is a great honour. I am delighted with the collective vote and the confidence from the amateur and professional soccer associations," said Grindl. "The new DFB muss apply to what is taken for granted in soccer: We need fair play and integrity."
The former treasurer of the DFB has a lot of work ahead. The DFB suffered an image damage after a bribery scandal was revealed in the light of the 2006 World Cup bidding. As a result, Grindl' s two predecessors Wolfgang Niersbach and Theo Zwanziger are under investigation of Frankfurt' s prosecution department.
However, the DFB launched an independent investigation by a layer' s office Freshfields that did not "found even the slightest indications or irregularities."
