Arsène Wenger believes his side’s resolute display at Everton demonstrated a new calmness in defence. Arsenal rose to third in the table with their 1-0 win at Goodison Park on Wednesday as Thomas Vermaelen’s early header secured all three points on Merseyside. Wenger’s team were forced to ride waves of pressure in the second period but stood strong to register their first league clean sheet since the beginning of February. “It confirms the solidity of the team,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “Especially when you go to Goodison Park where you know you will be under pressure and the crowd knows the game. “To come back having not conceded I am very happy because we have shown signs of mastering situations and not panicking. Especially against a team that is top class on crosses and set-pieces. “Usually people would not say Arsenal would not concede in circumstances like that so I am very pleased.”
