Dubai - Arabstoday

Top boxers from the Arab world will back the Dubai Police campaign against the use of drugs at the World Arab Boxing Championships to be held at the Dubai Tennis Stadium on March 31 and April 1. Some of the best boxers from the region have confirmed their attendance to the two-day event. The boxers will wear T-shirts with the words "No To Drugs" during the competition. Legendary British boxer Danny Williams will be the star spectator on both days. Williams is famous for out-boxing former world champion Mike Tyson in Kentucky in July 2004. In December the same year, Williams — also known as the "Brixton Bomber" — challenged for the WBC world heavyweight crown, but was stopped in the eighth round by Vitali Klitschko. The sports and entertainment event at the Dubai Tennis Stadium is being organised by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) in coordination with international boxing body Fiba and Golden Star Media. Held under the patronage of Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the first day will feature men's boxing with seven main bouts and five supplementary fights involving boxers from the region. The UAE's Khadoom Al Ka'abi will take on Mauritania's Saiduo Daillo in the 66kgs semi-middleweight class, while Ahmad Darmaki will be up against Morocco's Nabeel Mustapha in the 64kgs Super Lightweight category. On the second day of the competition, five professional women's bouts will be backed by another five fights involving amateur boxers from the Arab world. Top singers to be featured on both the days include Lebanese Miriam Fares and UAE's Ebrahim Al Hammadi, as well as the Filipino group Free Style Philippines Band. Tickets cost Dh200, Dh300 and Dh500 and cover the boxing and the post-match entertainment on both days.
