London - AFP

Lindsey Vonn of the United States on Sunday bagged her 47th World Cup race success in winning the super-G at Cortina d'Ampezzo. Vonn scored her sixth win of the campaign -- and sixth in all at the venue -- in timing 1min 26.16sec to see off Germany's Maria Hoefl-Riesch and Slovenia's Tina Maze by 0.61sec and 0.86sec respectively. Vonn placed second in Saturday's downhill and has bounced back from a disappointing showing last week at Bad Kleinkirchheim in Austria, where she missed the podium after coming fourth in the downhill and then trailing in 18th in the super-G for her worst result in four seasons. But this victory means she now stands alone at third on the women's all-time win list ahead of Austrian Renate Goetschl (46), with just Austria's Annemarie Moser-Proell (62) and Switzerland's Vreni Schneider (55) ahead of her. Discipline world champion Elisabeth Goergl came in fourth on Sunday, 0.97sec adrift of Vonn, while fellow Austrian Anna Fenninger, having managed three straight podium placings, this time failed to finish. Vonn increased her lead in the overall standings, where she leads Maze by 291 points. "It was tough to get the confidence back after my races in Bad Kleinkirchheim last weekend, but now with a first and a second here in Cortina, everything is going the right way and I couldn't be happier," said Vonn. "Cortina is a very special place for me. It's where I got my first World Cup podium and I've always had success here, so I was really trying hard today and risking a lot. "My run was a good combination of risk and aggression, but I still stayed in control. The high speed made it more challenging than normal. I was on the limit the entire race." Hoefl-Riesch received a confidence booster with her second spot, the German 2011 World Cup overall champion nailing her first speed podium of the season. "It was my goal before the season that I can do results like this," said Hoefl-Riesch. "I made some mistakes in the middle section where I lost some time, because Lindsey was leading by more than a second at the last split. She definitely skied this section the best -- really aggressive. "I was a little low sometimes and a little too defensive. But all in all, it was a good run. I took all the speed I could and I'm happy with this result." Women's World Cup racing continues next weekend with giant slalom and slalom races in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.
