Wadi Degla's Belgian coach Walter Meeuws, who suffered a serious injury after the team’s bus crashed last week, is recovering after undergoing two operations. “Meeuws’s case has stabilised and the bleeding stopped,” Degla’s doctor, Ayman Zain, was quoted as saying on the club’s official website adding that “he will be back to lead the team within two weeks.” The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) decided Monday to postpone Degla’s league opener against Zamalek, set to be held on Saturday, to 19 January. The team’s bus crashed on its way back from Ismailiya where the team had played a friendly match against Ismaily on Friday. The team’s dressing room attendant died while other technical staff members and players escaped unhurt. The club’s website hailed Ahly's Portuguese manager Manuel Jose, who visited Meeuws at the hospital and gave him a Belgian edition of one of legendary Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz's novels. The 60-year-old Meeuws is a former KRC Mechelen and Ajax defender, who started his coaching career with Lierse S.K. before leading the Belgium national team in 1989. He has coached other teams including Royal Antwerp, K.A.A. Gent, Moroccan Raja Casablanca and Qatari Al-Ittihad.
