The third edition of the UAE Martyrs Jiu-Jitsu Championship was launched in the Mubadala Arena at Zayed Sports City on Friday. The tournament commemorates the UAE martyrs and honours their sacrifices.
The opening ceremony was attended by Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry, and Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs.
The tournament has been organised by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation for the third year in a row, in collaboration with the Office for Martyrs' Families’ Affairs at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court.
Commenting on the tournament, Suhail Al Mazrouei, said, "We in the UAE are proud of our martyrs and their families. This tournament was named after those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country and people, and although nothing can repay our martyrs and their families, we are committed to being here in this symbolic championship that honours our heroes."
Shamma Al Mazrui said, "We are proud to see the sport of Jiu-Jitsu linked to our heroes who gave their country the ultimate sacrifice. Our founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, taught us how to love and cherish our homeland, and this tournament reflects these values we learned from him."
