Third-seeded Sorana Cirstea led a 5-0 day for seeded players in Wednesday’s second-round action at the Guangzhou International Women’s Open in China. Cirstea had eight aces and won more than two-thirds of the points on serve in a 6-1, 7-6 (7-0) win over Duan Ying-Ying. Cirstea had three breaks of Duan’s serve while losing her own serve just once. The other four seeded women on Wednesday’s schedule also advanced to the tournament quarter-finals. No.4-seeded Urszula Radwanska ran past Mandy Minella 6-2, 6-3 while fifth-seeded Chanelle Scheepers from South Africa, devastated the Serbian challenger, Bojana Jovanovski, with a breadstic. She juggled up a 6-4, 6-1 victory against the world number 58 to power into the quarter-finals. Radwanska and Scheepers will meet in the quarterfinals. Seventh-seeded Peng Shuai didn’t face a break point in a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Nudnida Luangnam and eighth-seeded Alize Cornet advanced to a quarterfinal pairing against Cirstea when Olga Govortsova retired due to illness.
