Top-seed Janko Tipsarevic rallied for a win but defending champion Marcel Granollers was ousted in Thursday's play at the Swiss Open tennis tournament. Tipsarevic was down a set and a break before turning back Martin Fischer 4-6, 6-7 (7-1), 6-3. Fischer was serving for the match at 5-3 of the second set before Tipsarevic posted his second break. Tipsarevic had two more breaks in the third set in gaining a spot in Friday's quarterfinals. Lukasz Kubot dismissed Granollers 6-4, 6-2, cashing in four of his nine break opportunities. Kubot won nearly half (26-28) of the points when Granollers served. Granollers was the Swiss Open No. 2 seed. Also Thursday, qualifier Jan Hernych defeated seventh-seeded Santiago Giraldo 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 and Grigor Dimitrov got by Dustin Brown 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 6-2. The upsets Thursday left Tipsarevic and fifth-seeded Feliciano Lopez the only seeded players in the field. Lopez is to play Thomaz Bellucci in Friday's quarterfinals in the same half of the same as a match between Dimitrov and Kubot. Tipsarevic moves into a Friday match against Hernych and Paul-Henri Mathieu goes against Ernests Gulbis in the other quarterfinal.
