Serena Williams beats Maria Sharapova in quarterfinals

Russia's tennis star Maria Sharapova has lost to Serena Williams of the U.S. in the quarterfinals of a tennis tournament in the United States. Williams defeated second-seeded Sharapova 6:1, 6:3, while the match lasted 1 hour and 9 minutes. Williams recorded 6 aces and made 2 two double faults, while Sharapova hit 8 double faults and recorded only one ace. Williams will meet Germany's Sabine Lisicki, who knocked off fifth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-2. Third-seeded Marion Bartoli of France will meet eighth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia in the second semifinals. The prize fund of the tournament amounts to $721,000.
