Abu Dhabi - Arabstoday

Pakistan were set a target of 170 to win in 21 overs in the first Test against Sri Lanka on Saturday but they played out a draw, reaching 21 for one. Earlier, on the fifth day, Kumar Sangakkara hit a double-ton and his partner Prasanna Jayawardene scored his fourth Test century to take Sri Lanka towards safety at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. Sangakkara’s 431-ball 211 runs included 18 fours whereas Jayawardene’s fourth Test century contained 12 fours. The sixth-wicket partnership between Sangakkara and Jayawardene was the highest for Sri Lanka against Pakistan. Azhar Ali finally ended Pakistan’s despair trapping Sangakkara leg-before with a legbreak just before tea. Aizaz Cheema had Jayawardene caught behind with the third new ball but it was too late.
