Craig Gentry delivered a tie-breaking two-run single in the seventh inning Thursday that boosted the Texas Rangers to a 10-6 win over the New York Yankees. The win allowed Texas to avoid a four-game sweep. The Rangers piled up 16 hits Thursday, two more than they had in the first three games of the series combined. David Murphy had three hits and five other Rangers had two hits each. Texas starter Derek Holland took a one-hitter and a 4-0 lead into the sixth inning but the Yankees reached him for four hits and five runs, with two coming in a home run by Andruw Jones, in the inning. But the next inning Michael Young and Adrian Beltran singled ahead of a run-scoring double by Murphy for the Rangers. The Yankees got the second out in the seventh and intentionally walked Mitch Moreland to load the bases. Gentry came through with a line-drive into center that drove in Beltran and Murphy and gave Texas a 7-5 lead. New York answered with a run on a groundout but Andre Beltre had a sacrifice fly for Texas and Murphy singled in a run in the eighth while Elvis Andrus had an RBI single in the ninth for the game's final run. Texas took the lead in the first with a two-run single by Beltre and made the score 4-0 in the sixth when Murphy and Gentry knocked in runs. Rangers reliever Tanner Schepper (1-0) got the final out in the sixth inning and picked up the win. Boone Logan (4-1), the third Boston pitcher Thursday, also got just one out but he also gave up two hits and two runs and got the loss.
