Hisashi Iwakuma set a Mariners rookie record Monday with 13 strikeouts in an eight-inning start in Seattle's 4-1 win over Toronto. Iwakuma (2-2) baffled the Blue Jays on four hits, allowing one run while walking three. The right-hander tossed 77 of his 109 pitches for strikes. Lucas Luetge recorded the final out for his first save as the Mariners took the opener of a three-game series. Michael Saunders and Kyle Seager each provided two hits and an RBI for the Mariners, who have won five straight. Ricky Romero (8-8) dropped his seventh straight start for the Blue Jays, surrendering four runs (three earned) on eight hits over six frames. Rajai Davis homered in the first inning to provide Toronto's only run.
