Newcastle - Arabstoday

Two local lads scored the goals which helped England Schoolboys beat their Scottish counterparts and lift the Lloyds TSB Cup at the Sports Direct Arena on Thursday night. Gateshead College student Michael Sweet, who hails from Darlington, gave England the lead midway through the second half with a deft lob. Then Peter Glen-Ravenhill, from St. Thomas More RC High School in North Shields, netted from close range after skipper Jack Pounce's drive was parried by Kieran Hughes nine minutes from time. In an entertaining Centenary Shield game marking 100 years of school football in Northumberland, Scotland dominated the first half but England improved markedly after the break to send the majority of the 2,535 crowd home happy. And it was fitting that two of the three North-East-based players in manager Andy Williams' side - Ashington High School's Kyle Downey was the other - were on target in front of the Sky Sports cameras. The win meant England were presented with the Lloyds TSB Cup, awarded annually to the winners of this fixture, while it also improved their chances of lifting the Centenary Shield. England: Connor Sidley-Adams, Tom Axford (Louis Bruce 90), Louis Mobbs, Oliver Davies, GeorgeNewton, Jack Pounce (c), Kyle Downey (Ashleigh Artwell 70), Tom Fouhy, Ben Mooney (Joe Bunney 46), Peter Glen-Ravenhill, Michael Sweet (Daniel Jones 84) Subs not used: Tom Betts, James Golby, Andrew Venning Scotland: Kieran Hughes, Ross McGeachie, Alan Lawson (c), Matthew Craig, Ryan McGeever, Matthew Cooper, Steven Forbes (Conor McVey 71), Jamie O'Grady (Connaire Connelly 82), Lawrence Shanckland, Kieran Anderson-Ballantyne, Scott Ferries Subs not used: Stuart Close, Gary Duggan, Dean Shaw, Greg Docherty, Dean Agnew Referee: Richard Clark Attendance: 2,535
