Stanford - UPI

Aaron Bright came off the Stanford bench and scored 17 points to lead the Cardinal past Cleveland State 76-65 in the opener of the NIT Tuesday. Bright scored four field goals and knocked down 8-of-10 free throws to send the Cardinal (23-10) on to the next round, where they will face the winner of Wednesday's game between Mississippi and Illinois State. Josh Owens and Anthony Brown scored 15 points apiece for Stanford. Brown led Stanford with a dozen rebounds. Jeremy Montgomery led Cleveland State (21-12) with 15 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Tim Kamczyc added 13 points. Stanford led 31-30 at halftime but extended the lead to double digits for the final 12:55 of the game, thanks in large part to 18-of-29 shooting from the free-throw line in the second half.
