Brian Westbrook, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, retired from the NFL Wednesday as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Westbrook is second all-time in Eagles history in rushing (5,995 yards) and owns the franchise record with 9,785 total yards from scrimmage. "I spent eight of my best years of my life in Philadelphia playing for the Eagles," Westbrook said at a news conference. He played for the Eagles, who selected him in the third round of the 2002 draft, from 2002-09. He played one season with the San Francisco 49ers. Westbrook rushed 1,385 times for 6,335 yards and 41 touchdowns in his career. He was selected to the Pro Bowl after the 2004 and 2007 seasons. "When I think of myself, I think of Brian Westbrook ... a third-round pick that was too small, who would only be a special teams player, to an All-Pro, to a two-time Pro Bowl selection, to the franchise leader in total yards from scrimmage," Westbrook said. "It's been a great ride and I thank everyone that has been here for me every step of the way." The Eagles said Westbrook would be honored at halftime of Philadelphia's Dec. 23 games against the Washington Redskins. Westbrook, who turns 33 Sunday, was born in Washington.
