In the first ministerial meeting since the Opening Ceremony, the Brazilian government stated on Saturday that it was happy the Rio 2016 Olympic Games "had begun very well", with no serious incidents recorded in the event's first hours.

The Minister of Defense, Raul Jungmann, met with the Minister of Justice, Alexandre Moraes, and the Minister of Institutional Security, Sérgio Etchegoyen, met to review the start of competitions. Afterwards, they issued a joint statement, expressing their happiness at the start and highlighting the importance of joint efforts by all security forces.

"The Rio Games have begun very well. This is the evaluation of the ministries of Justice, Defense and of Institutional Security. The integration of defense, intelligence and public security tasks, along with the forces of the Rio state government and the municipality, is crucial for the results to continue being positive," said the statement.

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games officially began on Friday with the Opening Ceremony, held at the legendary Maracana Stadium, and will last until August 21.
