Justin Verlander pitched eight innings of one-run ball Sunday and Detroit forged a tie for the divisional lead with a 4-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. Verlander (13-7) struck out 11 en route to his first victory in nearly a month, during which he allowed four hits and two walks while tossing 80 of his 124 pitches for strikes. Jose Valverde corralled his 28th save despite yielding three hits and a run in the ninth as the Tigers completed a three-game sweep of the White Sox and pulled into a tie with them atop the American League Central. Delmon Young broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run homer in the sixth inning and Brennan Boesch added a solo shot, providing Detroit's offensive spark. Chicago's Chris Sale (15-6) took the loss, yielding four runs on five hits over six innings. Alejandro De Aza and Dan Johnson knocked in a run each for the White Sox, who fell for the sixth time in seven games overall.
