Favorites Regal Barcelona will play Caja Laboral in the first semifinal of Spanish basketball's Copa del Rey knockout competition as a result of the first two quarterfinals played on Thursday. Caja Laboral won the first game in the Copa, which is played over four days between the sides who ended the first half of the Endesa ACB League season in the top eight. The side from Vitoria won a Basque derby against San Sebastian based Lagun Aro. The game was decided in the third period as Caja Laboral, who are currently third in the table, netted 27 points to Lagun Aro's 11. Pablo Prigioni, Mirko Teletovic and Mirko Bjelika were the stars for Caja Laboral, who will now play Barcelona for a place in the final. Playing in their hometown, Barcelona had few problems in defeating Lucentum Alicante by a comfortable 75-54 win. Barcelona were in control from the first period and were 41-25 ahead by the end of the second quarter, allowing coach Xabi Pascual to rotate his side ahead of Saturday's semifinal. Friday sees the second two quarterfinals as Real Madrid take on Mad-Croc Fuenlabrada and Unicaja Malaga face a derby against Sevilla based Banca Civica to decide the lineup for the second semifinal.
