Australia beat Qatar 2-1 in the WSF World Junior Squash Championships’ men’s team event here at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash complex yesterday. Sadam Mehawesh and Faisal al-Marri fell to quick defeats at the hands of T.J. Rarere and Tom Calvert  before Abdulla al-Tamimi restored some pride with a 11-13, 7-11, 11-9, 11-5. Al-Tamimi defaulted in the individual championships when playing against India’s Mahesh Mangaonkar he injured his arm, with the court ruled unplayable after several drops of blood fell on it. “Abdulla did what was expected of him and I am happy with that,” said Qatar coach Geoff Hunt. “We have another tough match, against Germany,” he added. In another match in the same group yesterday, India whipped Germany 3-0. Abhishek Pradhan began proceedings with a 11-9, 11-5, 11-1 win over Lucas Wirths after which Mangaonkar thrashed Andre Ergenz 11-5, 11-4, 11-6. The third match saw Vrishab Kotian beat  Niklas Becher 11-6, 12-10, 11-4. Meanwhile, Egypt, who swept both the men’s and women’s individual titles on Thursday cantered to a 3-0 defeat over Switzerland. Two-times world champion Marwan El Shorbagy thrashed Manual Wanner 11-4, 11-8, 11-6, while Mazen Hisham defeated Remo Handi 11-1, 11-2, 11-2 and fares Dessouki beat Yannick Lindemann 11-4, 11-4, 11-2. England also had an easy outing in the first round against Belgium, winning 3-0. Richie Fallows beat Jordi Camps 11-3, 11-4, 11-4, while Thomas Ford beat Jon van der Herrewegen 11-5, 13-11, 11-9 and Mathew Sidaway prevailed over Vincent Hitchins 11-8, 11-7, 11-7.Meanwhile, Pakistan thrashed South Africa 3-0. Syed Bukhari began proceedings with a 11-3, 11-7, 11-3 win over Nel van der Merwe, while Nasir Iqbal beat Ruan Oliver 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 and Tayyab Aslam finished off Simpiwe Gqibane. from gulf times.
