Melbourne - AFP

Australia beat India by 122 runs on the fourth day of the first Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday. India, chasing 292 for victory, collapsed to be all out for 169. Australia added 61 runs for their two remaining wickets before they were dismissed for 240 in their second innings. But it was a lead well beyond India's reach and once Sachin Tendulkar fell for 32 in the 27th over their remote chances of winning went with him. Australia's fast bowlers, James Pattinson, Ben Hilfenhaus and Peter Siddle, all did the damage reducing India to 81 for six on Tendulkar's dismissal. The victory gave Australia first blood in the four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series with the second Test beginning in Sydney on Tuesday. Match scores: Australia 333 and 240; India 282 and 169.
