Philadelphia - UPI

The Philadelphia 76ers are interviewing candidates who could replace Rod Thorn, president of basketball operations, sources told the Philadelphia Daily News. The team has received permission to speak with personnel executives from some teams, a source told the newspaper. The Daily News said the 76ers have been turned down by other teams. League sources said potential candidates include San Antonio Vice President of Operations Danny Ferry; Spurs Assistant General Manager Dennis Lindsey; Jeff Bower, who was a general manager for the New Orleans Hornets; Oklahoma City Assistant GM Troy Weaver; Atlanta GM Rick Sund, whose contract expires at the end of June; and Milwaukee GM John Hammond, who has a year remaining on his deal. Hammond, who was denied permission to talk to Portland last month, had been an assistant coach for Doug Collins with Detroit. The 76ers interview group comprises owner Josh Harris, Chief Executive Officer Adam Aron and Thorn, a source told the newspaper. Thorn, 71, is entering the last year of his three-year contract as president but signed a deal in August 2010 that includes a provision for him to become a part-time consultant for five years after his contract expires.
